Why God’s Love Is Better Than “Unconditional”

I needed this post the other day. I needed to be reminded of the great love Jesus has for us. He did not love us when we were in a state of being morally neutral, but He loved us in a state of morally wicked (Gen 6:5). He loved us in spite of us and for His glory and this brings us great joy (Rom 5). Here is a tease of the post entitled “Why God’s Love Is Better Than “Unconditional” which I hope you go read, read, and read again. God knew I needed it then, and as I read it again now, I am drawn to worship the Triune God afresh for His great love.

“God does not accept me just as I am;

He loves me despite how I am;

He loves me just as Jesus is;

He loves me enough to devote my life to renewing me in the image of Jesus.

This love is much, much, much better than unconditional! Perhaps we could call it “contraconditional” love.

Contrary to the conditions for knowing God’s blessing, He has blessed me because His Son fulfilled the conditions.”

[The title of the post comes from a booklet by David Powlison entitled “God’s Love: Better than Unconditional”.  You can buy it here and here.]
